We are medical, surgical and orthopedic specialists in the
treatment of foot and ankle problems. Although we
treat all foot conditions, we have a special interest in
orthopedics and minimal incision surgery.
Surgically, we specialize in minimal incision /
invasive foot surgery. These procedures were first
introduced to Canada by Dr. Tolbert. He is the most
experienced surgeon in minimal incision foot surgery in the
nation and was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Ambulatory
Foot Surgeons in 1978.
| Minimal incision
surgery (MIS) procedures utilize tiny incisions to
allow special instruments and drills to correct many
hammertoe and other deformities, as well as the
prominences that cause corns, thus giving permanent
relief. Metatarsal misalignment can be
corrected which permanently relieves painful
calluses. We also perform
a permanent correction for ingrown and thick
toenails utilizing medication, which is in most
cases cosmetically satisfying and virtually pain
free. In addition to these services, we
perform plantar wart surgery. These procedures
are performed in our surgical suite under local
anesthesia and nitrous oxide sedation if necessary.
All our surgery is ambulatory and medicated so it
involves very little pain.
Ambulatory foot surgery is preferable to surgery done
in hospital as there is less chance of infection, no
sickness from general anesthesia, and more mobility
because of immediate weight bearing and walking. |
